Company Overview

Companion Property & Casualty Insurance Group is headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina. We offer workers' compensation insurance, a variety of commercial package policies, commercial auto, commercial property and commercial general liability lines of insurance. In addition, we offer an HO-6 Resort Condominium program in selected markets in the Southeast.
We are very proud of our "A" Excellent rating (Financial Size Category VIII) from the A.M. Best Company. It reflects our strong earnings performance and our continuously improving capital position. We have a strong tradition of providing excellent security and superior service to our agents and customers.

Company History

Companion Property & Casualty Insurance Group was founded in Columbia, South Carolina in 1984, to provide workers' compensation insurance in South Carolina. At that time, we capitalized on extensive distribution channels and health-based relationships with South Carolina employers, in order to establish a successful insurance business in our chosen market.

Since then, we have built upon our strong history. Today, as we seek to achieve our mission — to be the best property and casualty company, providing security, trust and service — we have experienced exceptional expansion of both our markets and our profitability.

We have grown into a dynamic property and casualty insurer. We specialize in workers' compensation insurance, commercial auto, commercial packages, and a variety of targeted business policies in Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Benefits Overview
Health Insurance – Effective 1st of the month after 28 days of employment. (There is 12 mo. exclusion for pre-existing conditions.) Dental benefits are optional. Vision benefit is free for employee. Domestic Partner benefits are available. Flexible Spending Accounts - Available for medical and dependent care (pre-taxed).

Travel Accident Policy – Covers you while traveling on Company business and protects you when traveling between buildings on business. This is effective from the 1st day of employment.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment – Pays if you are in a covered accident equal to your annual salary PLUS formal incentive plan payment for the past 12 months.

Group Life Insurance – Covers employee for one time his/her annual salary. You can purchase up to 2X additional coverage.

Retirement – The 401K plan makes it easy for to get ready for life after BlueCross. BlueCross matches 50% of first 6% deferred. New hires are automatically enrolled in the plan at a 2% contribution rate. Pension Plan (all contributions made by BCBSSC). You will be vested after 5 years.
Must be at least age 21 years of age and have worked one year for the Company.

Leave – In the first pay period after 28 days of full time employment, employee begins accruing 11.5 hours of paid leave (15.5 hours after 5 years). No sick and vacation…all annual leave.

Holidays – 9 paid holidays. (If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Company celebrates on the Friday before. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the Company celebrates on a Monday.)

Education Assistance – Reimburse 75% of the cost of employee’s books and tuition for courses leading to a degree. (C avg. for undergraduates, B avg. for graduates.) Promissory note: If leave company within three years of receiving assistance, owe company all or portion of $$ back. You are eligible after three months of employment.

Fitness Centers- 3 locations in Columbia: one the Atrium building, one at Palmetto GBA and one at Percival building. Membership fee is $10.00 per pay period. Memberships are open to spouses at an additional cost. They offer aerobics, weights, exercise machines, showers, lockers and blow dryers.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – help with issues on stress, job and family issues/counseling, financial counseling, crisis intervention, basic legal.

Promotional Policy – After one year in a position, you can apply for other posted positions in the company. You must use internal application process.

Employee Association – Offers discounts to movies, theatre, zoo, theme parks and more. Participation is 25 cents per pay period.
