Praetorian Financial Group includes Praetorian Insurance Company (formerly Insurance Corporation of Hannover) and Redland Insurance Company. Additionally, Praetorian has recently signed an agreement to purchase surplus lines insurer Alea North America Specialty Insurance Company, whose name will be changed to Praetorian Specialty Insurance Company, pending regulatory approval.
Praetorian, an independent affiliate of Clarendon, was created by the Hannover Re Group to focus on U.S. specialty insurance business, while Clarendon focuses on commodity and legacy business. Praetorian and Clarendon are separately staffed and do not share a financial structure, liabilities or ratings.

The Praetorian name is derived from the Roman Praetorian Guard, an elite group of hand selected infantry and cavalry assigned to protect the Emperors of Rome. They were known for their strength, skill, intelligence and undying loyalty, and are generally credited with extending the Pax Romana, or Roman Peace; a time of unprecedented stability, prosperity and innovation.
Praetorian markets throughout the 50 states, on both an admitted and non-admitted basis, and is headquartered in New York City with offices in Chicago, Nashville, Kansas City (KS) and Omaha.
