Most of our products are those not found in typical insurance companies. We search for underserved niches where customers’ needs are not being adequately met. We then either develop a product to meet those needs, or obtain the talent required to do so.
• Our business model / Focused Product Management
RLI divides its business into three distinct product segments: property, casualty and surety. Each product line within those segments is led by an expert in the field. RLI products are supported by a staff dedicated to its profitability, responsible for developing its strengths and addressing its weaknesses. The product’s leader and underwriters are compensated based on the profitability of their product, not the volume of business written.
• Insiders interests aligned with shareholders
Executives’ bonus is specifically designed to reward achievement of the company’s goals. In addition, the ESOP makes all associates and other “insiders” fellow shareholders (see latest annual report for current percentage held by insiders). Therefore, we – like all responsible shareholders – hold a constant vigil for wasteful expenditures, process improvements, and the greater good of the company.
